The name I’m Lucky originated in a speech on Kim and Lucy’s wedding day, when it was pointed out that an anagram of their names was ‘I’m Lucky’ the dream of owning a business started shortly after.
Kim’s love of all things visual, combined with Lucy’s love of technology and gadgets seemed to create a concoction of skills that would lend themselves to retail.
The ethos was determined early on, we’re a small business, supporting other small businesses. We wanted to provide a collection of lovely things by even lovelier people. We also knew that sustainability would be a constantly present consideration.
The decision to go bricks and mortar was based on our love of our hometown, we’ve lived in Stourbridge most of our lives and have seen the high street go through so many transitions. This all sounds fairly well thought out so far but truthfully, a slightly tipsy walk through town, peering through windows of available units, finally sealed the deal for us.
We did the scary, official paperwork and set to work, relying on help from some very talented individuals to transform the space and our brand, while we did what we could. Lucy managed to get involved with her drill and we painted a lot, whilst managing a toddler in a building site.
We then faced the next few months being closed due to the global pandemic. The challenges were great but the support of our customers pulled us through to our re-opening in April 2021.
So here we are on the other side, Kim attempting to stock more things all the time but getting better at being sensible, while Lucy provides the technical wizardry. The wonderful Ella has joined the story and is doing a great job of organising us.
